A study from the University of Alabama shows that car accidents are one of the leading causes of injuries to the face and mouth, with it being the primary cause in children over the age of 5. Delta Dental of New Mexico reminds everyone that April is National Facial Protection Month and is asking individuals to think of a seat belt as another way to protect their face and mouth.

Heart disease has been the leading cause of death in the U.S. since 1921, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which estimated that nearly 1.24 million people – or about 3,400 each day – suffered a new or recurrent heart attack in 2010. So this February, in recognition of American Heart Month, Delta Dental of New Mexico wants to emphasize the connection between oral health and heart health.
